The Afters

It weird that I'm writing here again. I haven been doing so for so long that I've forgotten my username and password, momentarily. Judging from the previous post, it seems kind of emo. Well I rmb, it was the pms tht did it. And the phone call tht woke me up over smth so trivial I almost blew my top. Times like these, you need an outlet so there it went.

These days, I feel as if I could do anything. Anything other than sch related stuff. Its amazing actually, the absurdity of it all. However, reality pulls me back sometimes. Like gravity. And then I rmb, the things that I am supposed to do (no doubt leaving them all till the very very last minute) and the convictions that I have made and am supposed to fulfill. Dreams, arh, are willing to come only with sacrifices and so I guess I must be prepared.

Time is never enough. During astro the other day, the lecturer was saying we use to only have 16 hours a day. Or was it 20? I can't rmb. And a million or a billion or a trillion yrs later, our day is gg to be extende to 32 hours! Isnt that cool? Anyway, thats beside the point cus at that time we'll probably haf more work to do with a different pace of life and such and pple will still want more hours.

Well, I just need some time to sleep. It seems like I'm addicted to my bed. I have a disorder these days thats resembles a permanent sticking to my bed kinda thing. Like someone had used superglue to stick me to my bed. There's this irresistable attraction to well, my bed. Even as I'm typing this, I'm typing this, in bed. I studied (studied isn't a very apt word to use actually, more of like read) for my last test, in bed. You all see where this is going? Its a vicious cycle.

I'm facing a problem now. I've got a tutorial, that I absolutely hate, to prepare for on friday and I can foresee that it's going to take a very long time. However, there's this Murakami book that I just got from the library and I couldnt resist it. Oh somebody, save me already!

project. project. project

A friend ask me recently how was school and how were the projects coming along. I didnt know how to start. I dint know how to tell her how horrible it has been. Project members that have NO aesthetic skills and no appreciation for perfection are bugging me as the stuff that they are churning out are seriously ugly and slipshod. I have a layer of the project with me and I am planning on giving it a complete makeover. The other layer is with someone else whom I think has no intention to do the same. Its the ugliest piece of work that I'm ever involved in. I feel so tired and embarrassed of having to keep telling them its ugly so I just gave up eventually cus its still ugly even after they edited it. And then there's that MCP who seriously makes my blood boils with his ridiculous ideas that I was trying so hard to contain my thoughts and emotions on his stupidity and let the others knock some sense into him. I mean, after 6 hours of project work and you still have to deal with such stupid people, I would have shoot him really badly with my words. And its not nice, judging from the fact that I still have to deal with him in future. I'm so going to do badly for this project.

And there's 2 other projects due 1 week later that I've barely started. I feel so tired and so drained that I dont even know how I should approach them anymore. This has been my busiest semester so far. To think that I thought last sem was bad. Compared to this sem, last sem was a breeze. In addition, lecturers are not as nice and approachable as last sem.

And then you know that something is wrong when the glutton dont even feel like eating anymore. sigh.

secondary schools

I was browsing through my cousin's secondary school registration book when the page on Maris Stella caught my eye. Apparently, all secondary one students are required to buy a Macbook for their lessons. Compulsory you know.

And I'm like, what are the kids studying in secondary school nowadays that require a Macbook? Its not even laptop, its Macbook.

sigh. I dont even want to get started on how we do our studying in school in my time. and its not as if I left sec sch decades ago. It has just been what, 5 years?

Singapore's POP Music

I went to the the National Museum with ah tan today to prepare for an assignment when we found ourselves sitting down at the music booths, listening to Singapore's Pop Music made in the 1960s.

They are a whole lot better than the music the bands are making in Singapore now, especially the singing. There were covers from the Western music but they were good.Rock and Roll~ It was so good that we were 'groooving' to the beat and adding in our own little actions when we think that nobody is watching. The lyrics were simple and the tunes were catching.

C'mon everybody dance push push

Wo Bu Yao Du Shu

I am doing everything that is non-sch related. I have loads of readings to do but I'm reading everything else such as fiction and reader's digest (I just bought two books. hee). I have assignments to do but all I do is go out and haf fun till i'm so tired that once I reach home I only have enerygy to climb into bed. I love my social life and I absolutely abhor school. Whoever that said the worst is over when you completed JC is a big fat liar. JC was a breeze. Uni suck like hell and incompetent year ones who are unresponsive, irresponsible and cant be bothered can just go bang wall.

Ok I've said my piece. Time to get back to work. pffft.

Ps: look Ma! No braces!

Not used

School has started and it is freaking me out. Suddenly I have things to do. I'm not used to that idea. I'm only for the idea of wanting to do things, not things that require me to do them. Certain things have been screaming for my attention but I choose not to hear them. Many readings. Many many readings. In fact, I think I have been giving almost all my attention to just one particular module. Very unhealthy I know.

I am not used to waking up early. My body alarm is tuned to 11.30am every morning. Even that is early for some.

I am not used to squeezing up the bus in the morning, laptop in hand, bag on arm and frantically trying to tap my bus pass. I am not used to being engulfed in bodies while standing on the bus and trying not to fall. I am definitely not used to being pushed until I feel as if I will fly off from the little spot that I was standing on the bus.

I am not used to less outings.

I am not used to the fact that I dont have time to visit the library anymore. There's no point since I wont have time to read fiction.

This semester is not what I envisioned it to be. It was supposed to be more relaxed, slighly easier and more of a breeze compared to the previous sem. On the contrary, I have more projects even though the modules are slightly easier. It just seem to me that you can't have the best of both worlds(as if we all don't know that)

Anyway, there's a new kid on the block. Ok three new kids but the youngest boy caught my attention. I spied him playing with twigs and making odd noises that sounded like bish bang biang and I, er, replied him with my version of odd noises. And when I bid him goodbye, he blew me a kiss! I was so surprised as there was no one there to prompt him. And then he blew me another! Now boys like that I like. I was having a bad day and a kid made it right for me.

and when we feel empty, we sleep.

Unknown

I took this away from a History lecture today - 'You don't exist if no one remembers you'.Though I heard it before, it still strikes me hard. It is astonishingly easy to vanish from this world. Get rid of all your records and pictures and maybe when science and technology permits, you can erase the memories of people that have an inkling of you in their mind. Of course we don't have that now, it seems rather inhumane to do that anyway, but people can still disappear and as time passes, they are forgotten.

And of cus when you die, your direct descendents may remember you but how many generations will remember you? So when time passes long enough, you will be forgotten. It will be as if you never existed before.

so what is the point?

While vanishing is easy, it seems to be the opposite if you want to leave your mark behind.

Con of IVLE sms notification

I woke up from my nap due to a sms, feeling slightly annoyed and immensly guilty when I saw the message.

'Study hard and good luck for your GE2221 paper (Thu 4 Dec; 5-7 pm; MPSH1A)! '

I cannot wait for tmr to be over.

LSM 1301 is shit

I cant believe that I'm worrying so much about the bio paper tmr. Firstly, its open book. Secondly, its mcq. BUT, I never study Bio before. And the weightage for one mcq is one percent. 60 qns will translate to 60% of the module. Thats horribly heavy weightage.

Suddenly I wish that tmr's a geog paper instead. Any geog paper. Level 3000 also can.
Argh! I'm so going to die!

E-tutorial 2

By friday, we should have posted all our individual thoughts on the issue tht was presented to us by the TA on the forum so that we can discuss them over the weekend.

Its friday morning already, none of the forum members have posted anything. Me included. I haven even read the readings.

I love it. When the Canadian, Australian and Singaporean students goes on 'strike' together. Don't even need to come together to plan the 'strike' =)

ennui

You know, this is already the sixth week of school. Half a sem has gone by just like this. Like how? Like project meetings and deadlines and assignments and many many readings that cannot be and will never be finished. Like starting school at 10am and ending at 6pm. Like traffic jams that take up to two hours just to travel home.

Like that.

Before I continue bitching about the non-existent life that I have, I must remind myself that my situation is not the worse among my circle of friends.

Anyways, the lecturer came up with an (spastic) idea during tutorial today so that he will be able to know who is participating in the discussion.

This is what happens.

be better

It has been an awfully long time. The last post was about me complaining about work and stuff but I dint even go into the details and I’m already starting a new phase of my life. Or should I just say another stage in my life. I’m kind of enjoying the days as it goes by. School has started and the true horror hasn’t struck but it has been good so far (c’mon, it has only been two days). I’m foreseeing a really busy semester and a fulfilling one as well.

Life has been easier after choosing the major. Now, I can actually set my goals on things that I can see and things that I can focus on. I know what direction I’m suppose to go in and I’m going to work so fucking hard to get it. It’s time to pull those pathetic grades up.

You know, life is good when you have almost everything. I’m pretty contented with my dosage of family, friends and fiction.

PS: It would be better if moolah can grow on trees thou. Then there will be no problems with fieldtrips, holidays blah blah blah.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

I just bought a new quilt cover and I almost dint want to wake up. Its smooth and comfy and of course, its expensive as well (even thou it was on promotion). It has a 'brinjal' colour and it makes me want to go back to sleep even more than before. This is bad.

Anyway, I've finally pulled myself up from bed to prepare to go to school. Alas! Today's lecture will be conducted by a guest lecturer and you all now how we all love to listen to guest lecturers cus of the pictures they show during their presentation but we never ever take notes or remember what they say? So I think I shall do myself a favour and not turn up today and thus save two and a half hours of travelling time.

I'm feeling really lazy. I dint go for tuition yesterday, I got overdue readings and I need to go to work later. I cant wait for the last day when I quit.

It was nice working there for a while. However, all the full time staff are quitting, the doctors are leaving, the organisation's crappy, so there's no point staying there for too long. The novelty of it is worn out. Its time to move on and look for something new after the exams.

Speaking of which, term is ending!

I was at Terminal 3 the other day.The telephones there have interactive games, you know, touch screen. You can play them for free. Hit the bunny is only one of the few games that they have. I scored 21 points!

fieldwork

I'm having a problem trying to make some sense of my results. Cause apparently, from wht the tehnician told me and what I've collected, they dont't tally with any of the research material that I've been reading.

And I cant picture the instrument in my head. I can but its not a detailed image. And there are so many variations of just one instrument online that I cant find anything remotely similar to the one I've borrowed from the lab.

Wish me luck.

Yiling: Yeah. Squeezing bus sux. More often than not, I feel more of a sardine in the mornings than a human.

PrisC: Glad you know its been looooooooooooooooooong. Do meet up please~

sem 2

I can foresee that I am going to dislike this sem very much.

I dint manage to get all my choices in the tutorial ballot. I must have been too lucky last sem as I got everything that I wanted. I have been planning for a 3 day week this sem. In the end, I've got a 3.5 day week. 3.5 because the tutorial on wednesdays only fall on alternate weeks. However, tutorial is at 2-4pm so the whole day is wasted already. Imagine, I going to school for a two hour tutorial only.

Maybe I screwed up. If I know what I am goingto major in, I think everything would work out way better than it is now.
